Most of us think we’re pretty aware of our bodies — we train, we move, we push limits, we “listen” (or at least try to).
But the truth is: most of us are operating with delayed interoception and don’t even know it.
Interoception is your ability to sense what’s happening inside your body — your heart rate, breath shifts, tension, energy drops, gut signals, the subtle “something feels off” moment before your brain can put language to it.
When life gets fast, demanding, or stressful, this internal feedback system gets quieter.
Not because “you’re not mindful enough,”
but because your nervous system is trying to conserve energy by tuning out noise.
Here’s the problem:
When the early cues get quiet, your system only hears the loud ones.
That’s why you suddenly “realize” you’re overwhelmed once you’re already overwhelmed.
Or you only notice tension once it’s a full-body clamp.
Or you don’t feel the need to slow down until your body forces you to.

Interoception is 100% trainable.
Not through intensity.
Not through “pushing harder.”
But through the slower, quieter practices that actually rewire your brain to hear your internal world again:
slow breathing that lengthens your exhale
somatic mobility where you can actually feel joint-by-joint shifts
Yoga Nidra or non-sleep deep rest
transition pauses that give your brain time to catch signals
moment-to-moment check-ins that take 5 seconds, not 5 minutes
When these practices become consistent, something big shifts:
You start catching signals earlier.
You start recovering faster.
You stop getting blindsided by your own body.
And you build real nervous system resilience — not the motivational-poster kind.
