A Simple Ritual to Downshift

There’s nothing fancy about this one—and that’s the point.

Sometimes your nervous system doesn’t need more input. It needs permission to slow down. To exhale. To pause without a plan.

The Wall Reset is a 5–10 minute practice that combines stillness, breath, and gentle body awareness. It’s especially helpful after a training day, a long drive, or anytime you feel wired but tired.

How to Do It:

  • Find a wall and lie down with your legs up the wall

  • Rest your arms comfortably at your sides or on your belly

  • Close your eyes or soften your gaze

  • Begin to slow your exhale longer than your inhale (Ex: Inhale 4, exhale 6–8)

  • Stay for 5–10 minutes. Let gravity do the work.

Optional: Add a folded blanket under your hips for comfort and to reduce low back tension.

Why It Works:

  • Supports venous return and circulation

  • Gently decompresses the spine and hips

  • Downshifts your nervous system through extended exhales

  • Trains your body to associate stillness with safety—not shutdown

Coach’s Note:

You don’t have to earn your recovery.
This is your reminder that stillness can be just as strategic as movement.

Try this once or twice this week. Your breath—and your body—will thank you.
